Compressor (With A/C Clutch -N25-), Removing and Installing

Compressor (With A/C Clutch -N25-), Removing And Installing
- Discharge refrigerant circuit.
- Disconnect refrigerant lines from compressor.
- Remove compressor from bracket.

Notes:
- If a new compressor has been installed or new refrigerant oil has been put into the compressor (e.g. after blowing through the A/C system and discharging compressor via oil drain plug), the compressor must be turned manually approx. 10 revolutions. This ensures that the compressor is not damaged when activated.
- When operating the compressor for the first time:
^ Start engine with system switched off (operating mode "OFF").
^ Wait until idle speed has stabilized.
^ Switch compressor on and allow it to run at least 10 minutes with engine idling.

Compressor With A/C Compressor Regulator Valve -N280-, Removing And Installing From Bracket
Vehicles With 6 Cyl. Engine (Compressor Drive Via A Belt)

Notes:
- The compressor can be removed without opening refrigerant lines.
- Do not discharge the A/C system, and do not disconnect refrigerant lines of compressor.
- After removing, secure A/C compressor to longgmember (i.e. with wire) Do not hang on refrigerant lines.
- Mark the running direction of the ribbed belt with a crayon or marker before removing. Reversing the direction of rotation of a run-in belt can destroy the belt.
- Different compressors are installed depending on engine and country variant (right or left side of engine, 6 cyl. engines).

Compressor (installed on right side of engine), removing and installing from bracket

Notes:
- The compressor is installed e.g. on a 1.9 L Diesel engine (not for USA) installed on right hand side of the engine.

- Do not loosen refrigerant lines and clamps -D-.
- Remove noise insulation.
- Bring lock carrier into service- position.
- Release ribbed belt and remove.
- Remove screws -A- (25 Nm).

Notes:
- Install one washer -B- on each bolt -A-.
- Before fastening the compressor, check that both bushings -C- in bracket or compressor are seated correctly.

- After fastening the compressor, check installation position of refrigerant lines -A-, lines must be engaged in bracket -B-.
- After fastening the compressor, check the refrigerant lines and brackets fbr enough distance to other components.

Compressor (installed on left side of engine), removing and installing from bracket

Notes:

- E.g. the compressor is installed on the 2.0 L gas engine (left side of engine).
- Do not loosen refrigerant lines and pertaining clamp.
- The illustration shows the compressor on a 4 cyl. gas engine. On other engine variants the arrangement deviates only slightly from this illustration (e.g. different refrigerant lines).

- Remove noise insulation.
- Bring lock carrier into service position.
- Remove oil filter. Protect sealing surface from damage (only on vehicles with 6 cyl. gas engine).
- Release ribbed belt and remove.

- Remove bolts -A- (25 Nm).

Notes:
- Install one washer -B- on each bolt -A-.
- Before fastening the compressor, check that both bushings -C- in bracket or compressor are seated correctly.

- After fastening the compressor, check installation position of refrigerant lines -A-, lines must be engaged in bracket -B-.

- After fastening the compressor, check the refrigerant lines and pertaining bracket as well and there is sufficient gap to other components, on vehicles with 6 cylinder engines make sure there is enough space between belt, bracket and belt pulley.

Audi Allroad with 8 cyl. engine (compressor drive via a drive shaft)

Note:
- The compressor is driven by a toothed gear that is part of drive shaft -B-.
- Removing and installing compressor bracket to engine.
- To remove the compressor on vehicles with an 8-cyl. engine, refrigerant circuit must be drained and then both reMgerant lines must be disconnected from compressor.
- Air conditioning system with refrigerant R134a.
- Removing and installing compressor to bracket.
