Front Side Airbag, Removing And Installing

Removing

CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting the vehicle battery. Switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting the vehicle battery.

CAUTION: Note safety specifications when working on airbag.

- For vehicles with coded radio unit, radio/navigation system (RNS) note coding; ask if necessary.
- Disconnect battery ground strap/cable and cover negative pole.
- Remove front seat.
- Remove seatback cover.







- Turn over lock bracket - 4 - and disconnect connector - 2 - from side airbag - 1 -.
- Remove 2 screws - 3 - (5.1 Nm/44 in.lb.).
5 - Fasten ground cable with lower screw - 3 -.
- Remove 2 screws - 2 - (3.5 Nm/31 in.lb.).
- Press side airbag - 1 - approx. 10 mm forward , unhook from brackets - 3 - and remove.

Installing
Installation is done in reverse sequence, noting the following:

CAUTION: In order to ensure function of side airbag, new upholstery clips must be installed to seatback cover at the same location prior to removal.







- Seatback cover - 1 - recognized by "AIRBAG" sewn label.
- For vehicles with side airbag "AIRBAG" sewn label cannot remove.
