Special tools and equipment
^ Cooling system tester V.A.G 1274
^ Adapter V.A.G 1274/8
^ Adapter V.A.G 1274/9

Test requirement:
^ Engine at operating temperature.

Test sequence

WARNING: Steam or hot coolant can escape when opening coolant expansion tank cap. Cover cap with a cloth, and open carefully.

- Open cap on coolant expansion tank.





- Install tester V.A.G 1274 with adapter V.A.G 1274/8 onto expansion tank.
- Using hand pump on tester, build up a pressure of approximately 1.8 bar.
- If pressure is not maintained, trace leak and rectify fault.

Testing pressure relief valve in filler cap.





- Install tester VAG 1274 with adapter VAG 1274/9 onto filler cap.
- Operate hand pump.
^ Pressure relief valve should open at 1.8 to 2.0 bar.
