Drive Belt: Adjustments
Ribbed belt, checking alignment
Check alignment of ribbed belt after replacing following components.
^ Vane pump for power steering
^ Air conditioner compressor
^ Bracket for vane pump and A/C compressor
Note: To prevent damage to ribbed belt, belt alignment must be checked between A/C compressor and power steering vane pump.
Special tools and equipment
^ Aligning gauge 3201
^ Pin wrench 3212
Test sequence
^ Lock carrier to service position, Refer to Body and Frame,Radiator Support, Service and Repair
^ Ribbed belt must be removed , Refer to Ribbed Belt, Removing and Installing
- Unplug electrical connector -5- at Charge Air Pressure Sensor -G31-.
- Loosen hose clamps -3- and -4-.
- Pull off hoses at air recirculation valves.
- Remove bolts -1- and -2- detach air intake pipe.
- Install aligning gauge 3201 onto A/C compressor pulley.
^ Power steering pump pulley must align with compressor pulley.
If the two ribbed belt pulleys are not accurately aligned:
- Remove bolts (arrows) from power steering pump pulley.
Note:
^ Use pin wrench 3212 as a brace when loosening and tightening bolts (arrows).
^ Installation position: marking "vorne" (front) on pulley faces in direction of travel
- Bring vane pump pulley into alignment with A/C compressor pulley by installing appropriate shims (thicknesses 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5 mm. For part Nos, Refer to Parts Supplier
- Then check alignment of pulleys once again using aligning gauge 3201. Repeat adjustment if necessary
Note:
- Replace O-ring for front air intake pipe.
- Secure all hose connections with correct hose clamps (same as original equipment), Refer to Parts Supplier.
- Remove any traces of oil or grease on hose connections and hoses for charge air system before installing. Do not apply lubricant.
Tightening torques
1) Insert with thread-locking adhesive, thread-locker:, Refer to Parts Supplier
