Ribbed belt, removing and installing

Note: Before removing ribbed belt, mark direction of rotation with chalk or a felt pen. If a used belt rotates in opposite direction when reinstalled, premature wear and breakage may occur.

Special tools and equipment





^ Locking pin 3204

Removing





- Release fasteners -1- to -4- and take off noise insulation.





- To loosen ribbed belt, turn belt tensioner in direction of (arrow).





- Insert locking pin 3204 into holes (arrow) to lock belt tensioner.
- Remove ribbed belt from belt pulley on alternator.

Installing
Install in reverse sequence; note following points-.

Note: Check alignment of ribbed belt, Refer to Ribbed belt, checking alignment after replacing following components.

^ Power steering pump for power steering
^ Air conditioner compressor
^ Bracket for vane pump and A/C compressor





- Install ribbed belt on belt pulleys in following sequence.
1 - Top idler wheel
2 - Crankshaft
3 - Tensioning element for ribbed belt
4 - Bottom idler wheel
5 - P.A.S. vane pump
6 - A/C compressor
7 - Alternator





- Turn ribbed belt tensioner in direction of (arrow).
- Take out locking pin 3204.
- Ensure that ribbed belt is correctly routed and properly seated.
- Start engine and check belt running.
