EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve - N80-, Checking
EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve - N80-, Checking
Leak test
Solenoid valve is closed when de-energized.
- Remove hoses from EVAP canister purge regulator valve; leave connector attached.
- Connect test hose to one connection of EVAP canister purge regulator valve.
- Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and select vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics" from list. Ignition must be on.
- Start final control diagnosis and actuate EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80-. Final Control Diagnosis (Function 03)
- Valve must click...
- ...and must open and close (can be checked by blowing into test hose).
- Terminate function "03 - Final control diagnosis" by touching <- key.
If valve does not open and close properly:
- Replace EVAP canister purge regulator valve - N80-.
- If valve does not click, perform electrical check on EVAP canister purge regulator valve.
Electrical checking of EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80-
- Disconnect connector from EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80-.
- Measure resistance with portable multimeter V.A.G 1526 between contacts of solenoid valve.
Specification: 22...30 Ohm
If reading does not match specification:
- Replace EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80-.
If reading matches specification:
- Check power supply.
Checking solenoid valve power supply
NOTE: The EVAP canister purge regulator valve is supplied with power via the fuel pump relay.
- Check fuse for EVAP canister purge regulator valve.
If fuse is OK:
- Disconnect connector from EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80-.
- Connect diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 between socket 1 of connector and engine Ground.
- Operate starter.
Diode test lamp must light
If diode test lamp does not light:
- Check for continuity in wiring from socket 1 via fuse to fuel pump relay and repair if necessary.
- If wiring is OK, check fuel pump relay Testing and Inspection.
If diode test lamp lights, check actuation.
Checking actuation of EVAP canister purge regulator valve
- Connect diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 between sockets 1 (positive) and 2 of connector.
- Start final control diagnosis and select EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80-. Final Control Diagnosis (Function 03)
Diode test lamp must flash.
If the diode test lamp does not flash or is constantly lit:
- Check wiring to engine control module.
Checking wiring
- Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 at wiring harness to engine control module. Actual engine control module is not to be connected. Wiring And Component Check Using Test Box V.A.G 1598/31
If diode test lamp is constantly lit:
- Check for short to Ground in following wiring:
2-pin connector at wiring Test box V.A.G 1598/31,
harness, socket socket
2 64
If diode test lamp does not flash:
- Check for short to positive/open circuit in following wiring.
2-pin connector at wiring Test box V.A.G 1598/31,
harness, socket socket
2 64
Resistance: max. 1.5 Ohm
- Eliminate Ground connection/open circuit in wiring if necessary.
If there is neither an open circuit in the wiring nor a short circuit:
- Replace Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220-.
