Safety precautions

Note the following if testers and measuring instruments have to be used in the course of a test drive:

WARNING:
- If measurements/tests have to be performed whilst driving, vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool is always to be attached to rear seat and operated from there.
- If testers and measuring instruments were to be operated from the front passenger's seat, the person sitting there could suffer injury in the event of an accident due to the triggering of the front passenger's airbag.

Requirements
- Coolant temperature at least 80 degree C
- Electrical loads switched off (coolant fan must not run during test)
- Air conditioner switched off

Work sequence
- Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and select vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics" from list. Ignition must be on. Connecting VAS 5051 Scan Tool

Or, depending on desired operation:
- Start engine.

Indicated on VAS 5051:







- From list -1- select diagnostic function "08 - Reading measured value block".

Indicated on VAS 5051:







1 Enter display group
- Use keypad -2- to enter required three-digit display group number and confirm entry by touching Q key.

NOTE: The display group to be selected can be seen from the respective functional tests and component checks.

Indicated on VAS 5051:







1 Read measured value block
2 Display zone 1
- Display zone 2
- Display zone 3
- Display zone 4
3 Display group X

NOTE:
- Display remains blank if a display zone is not used.
- Proceed as follows to switch to a different display group:

Up Press s key
Down Press t key
