Ignition System: Description and Operation
General notes on ignition system
- Always switch off the ignition before disconnecting and connecting the battery so as not to damage the engine control module.
- A voltage of at least 11.5 V is required for proper operation of the electrical components.
- Certain tests may lead to a fault being detected by the control module and stored. The fault memory is therefore to be interrogated and, if necessary, erased on completion of all tests and repair work.
- If the engine only starts briefly and then cuts out again after component fault-finding, repair or testing, this may be due to the disabling of the engine control module by the immobilizer. If this is the case, the fault memory must be interrogated and the control module adapted if necessary.
CAUTION:
- On vehicles equipped with a telematics system, activate the telematics control module service mode before disconnecting the battery.
- Always switch off the ignition before disconnecting and connecting the battery so as not to damage the engine control module.
