Electronic Throttle Actuator Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
Angle sensor -1- for throttle drive (power accelerator actuation) -G187- and Angle sensor -2- for throttle drive (power accelerator actuation) -G188-, checking
The throttle valve drive angle sensors -G187- and -G188- signal the position of the throttle valve to the engine control module. Both angle sensors are located in the throttle valve control module. If a DTC relating to angle sensors for throttle valve drive -G187- or -G188- is stored in the DTC memory, check voltage supply to the throttle valve control module.
If a DTC relating to angle sensors for throttle valve drive -G187- or -G188- is stored in the DTC memory, check voltage supply to the throttle valve control module.
Checking the voltage supply to the throttle valve control module
- Check fuse for throttle valve control module.
If the fuse is OK:
- Disconnect connector from throttle valve control module.
- Switch ignition on.
- Connect hand-held multimeter between following sockets on connector to measure voltage:
6-pin connector on
wiring harness, socket Specified value
2 + Ground approx. 5 V
2 + 6 approx. 5 V
If the specified values are not attained, test wiring between the engine control unit to the throttle valve control parts.
If specifications are attained, also check the signal and activation wiring of the throttle drive actuation.
Checking wiring for voltage, signal and actuation
- Connect test box VAG 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control module; do not connect engine control module. Connecting VAG 1598/31 Test Box
- Check following wiring connections for open circuit and short circuit to positive or Ground.

Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohm
- Correct any open/short circuits as necessary.
If no wiring malfunction is detected:
- Replace throttle valve control module.
- Read readiness code. Generate readiness code again if DTC memory was erased. Readiness Code, Generating
