DTC Memory Checking and Erasing
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, checking and erasing
NOTE: If no DTC is stored in the DTC memory the DTC memory should not be erased unnecessarily as the readiness code is reset.
- Connect Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 or V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool and select engine electronics control module with "Address word" 01. For this purpose, engine must be running at idle speed.

- Switch on printer using the Print key (Warning lamp in switch illuminates).

Select function XX
- Operate Scan Tool, taking into account information on display.
- Press keys 0 and 2 for "Check DTC memory" function and press Q key to confirm entry.
The display shows the number of stored malfunctions or "No DTC detected!".
X DTC(s) detected
If no DTC is stored:
- Press key.
If one or more DTCs are stored:
The stored DTCs are displayed and printed out one after the other.
The display then shows

- Locate and eliminate DTCs listed on printout as per DTC table.

- Press keys 0 and 5 for "Erase DTC memory" function and press Q key to confirm entry.

DTC memory is erased
NOTE: If the ignition is switched off between checking the DTC memory and erasing the DTC memory, then the DTC memory will not be erased. It is therefore important to follow the procedure exactly, i.e. first check the DTC memory and then erase it.

NOTE: During test and assembly work, malfunctions such as separated connectors may also be recognized by other control modules. Therefore on completion, the DTC memories of all the control modules must be checked and erased. The automatic test sequence must be performed.
