Engine Control Module (ECM), coding
NOTE:
- If the appropriate code for the vehicle is not displayed or if the control module has been replaced, the control module must be coded.
- During control module identification a 5-digit code must always be displayed.
- Incorrect coding may lead to higher emissions and increased strain on the automatic transmission resulting from harsh shifting jolts.
- Connect Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 or V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool and select engine electronics control unit with "Address word" 01. For this purpose, ignition must be switched on.

- Press keys 0 and 7 for function "Code control module" and confirm entry with Q key.

Enter code number xxxxx (0-32000)
- Enter appropriate code number for this vehicle and confirm with Q key.
Compose the code number as follows (example):
USA, TLEV (emission standard) 06
4WD with traction control system 7
Automatic transmission 5
Audi A6 and S6 2
Code number (example) 06 7 5 2
The display on V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool shows the control module identification code e.g.:
4B0907558.. 4.2l V8/5V G D ->.

- Press ->key.

- Press keys 0 and 6 for "End output" function and press Q key to confirm entry.
- Switch ignition off and then on again.
NOTE: The next time the ignition is switched on the newly entered code will be activated.
