Engine Control Module: Testing and Inspection




Code Control module (function 07)


NOTE:
- If a coding is indicated that does not correspond to the vehicle, or if control module has been replaced, control module must be coded.
- Coding is checked using the VAG1551 scan tool.
- During control module identification, a 5-digit code must always be indicated.
- Incorrect coding can lead to increased exhaust emissions and increased strain of the automatic transmission due to hard shift jolt.


- Connect VAS5051 tester or VAG1551 scan tool and select the control module for engine electronics via "address word" 01. Connecting VAS 5051 Scan Tool
Ignition must be switched ON for this.

Select function XX



- Press 0 and 7 for the function "Code Control Module", and then press Q to exit from input mode.

Indicated on display:


Code control module Q
Enter code numbers xxxxx (0-32000)



- Enter appropriate code number for this vehicle, and press Q to exit from input mode.

Compose the code number as follows (example):







VAG1551 scan tool display indicates control module coding, e.g.:


4D0907558.. 4.21 V8/5V GD.. ->
Coding 06713 WSC 06388



- Press -> button.

Select function XX



- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End Output" function 06. Press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Switch ignition off and on again.


NOTE: The next time ignition is switched ON, entered coding will be activated.
