Shift Interlock: Testing and Inspection



Selector lever controls, checking

Selector lever in "P" position and ignition switched on:

^ Brake pedal not depressed
- The selector lever is locked and cannot be moved out of "P" position.
^ The shift lock solenoid blocks the selector lever.
- Brake pedal depressed
^ The shift lock solenoid releases the selector lever.
- It is possible to select a driving mode.
^ Move selector lever slowly from "P" through "R", "N", "D", "4", "3", "2."
Transmission Range (TR) selector lever display in instrument cluster must indicate selector lever position.

Selector lever in "N" position and ignition switched on:

^ Brake pedal not depressed
- The selector lever is locked and cannot be moved out of "P" position.
- The shift lock solenoid blocks the selector lever.
^ Brake pedal depressed
- The shift lock solenoid releases the selector lever.
- It is possible to select a driving mode.

Notes:

^ The starter must not operate in selector lever positions "2", "3", "4", "D", "R" .
^ At speeds over 5 km/h (3 mph), with the selector lever in "N", position, the shift lock solenoid must not engage and block the selector lever. The selector lever can be moved into a driving mode.
^ At speeds below 2 km/h (1 mph), if the selector lever is moved into "N" position, the shift lock solenoid must only engage after approximately 1 sec. The selector lever can only be moved out of "N" position when the brake pedal is operated.
