Control Module: Service and Repair


Transmission Control Module (TCM) - J217-, removing and installing

Note:
^ Observe the rules for cleanliness when working on the automatic transmission.
^ General repair instructions.

Removing
^ Remove end cover.





^ Unscrew bolts (arrows) and pull out Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- (keep control module straight so it comes out without jamming).
^ Take off twin-lip oil seal -A- from Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217-.

Installing
Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:





^ Clean sensors -A- , -C- and -D- to remove metal particles and dirt if necessary.
^ Clean selector shaft.





^ Replace O-rings -A- on hydraulic control assembly before installing TCM -J217-.

Note: Lightly lubricate O-rings with A TF before inserting.





- Bring TCM -J217- into position (keep it straight to prevent it from jamming). Connectors -A-, -B- and -C- at rear of control module must plug into hydraulic control assembly.





- Tighten bolts (arrows) to 10 Nm.
- Install end cover.

After connecting the TCM ~J217-, perform the following steps:
- Enter coding in new TCM -J217-.
- Perform adaptation of TCM -J217-.
For this step use vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
