Connecting Rod: Testing and Inspection

Connecting rod radial play, checking
Special tools and equipment
^ Plastigage

Test sequence
^ Remove connecting rod bearing caps. Clean bearing caps and journals.
^ Place Plastigage over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing shells.
^ Install connecting rod bearing caps and tighten to 30 Nm. DO NOT turn crankshaft.
^ Remove connecting rod bearing caps again.





^ Compare width of Plastigage with calibrated scale.
^ Always replace connecting rod bolts.
