^ VW 681 Release lever
^ 2062 Drift
^ T10037 Puller
^ VAG 1331 Torque wrench
^ VAG 1332 Torque wrench

Removing
- Turn steering to full left lock.
- If installed, remove cover plate over left drive shaft.
- Unbolt drive shaft from flange shaft.
- Place drip tray underneath.
- Remove flange shaft; by screwing puller T1 0037 to differential cover (arrow).
- Pull out flange shaft oil seal with VW 681.
- Remove speedometer sensor.
- Remove speedometer drive wheel:
- With a screwdriver press retaining clips in direction of arrows.
- Remove drive wheel by prying out, alternating between sides.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
Note: Install the drive wheel carefully onto the differential, make sure that it is kept straight. Do not use excessive force - the drive wheel can break.
Installation position:
The drive peg of the drive wheel -A- faces seal -B- located in the groove of the differential.
The retaining clips (arrows) located in the annular groove in the differential.
^ Always replace oil seal -B- and circlip -C-.
^ Drive in flange shaft using mandrel VW 295.
^ Check oil level and fill oil in transmission.
Tightening torques
