Airbag Unit (Standard Steering Wheel), Removing And Installing
WARNING!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbag.
1 - Torx bolts (T 30) (2x)
- Tightening torque 7 Nm.
2 - Steering wheel
3 - Connector for coil
4 - Connector for airbag unit
5 - Airbag unit
- Removing
- Disconnect battery ground (GND) strap.
- Release steering column adjuster.
- Pull steering wheel -2- outward and upward as far as possible.
- Move steering wheel -2- to vertical position.
- Unscrew one Torx bolt T 30 -1-.
- Turn steering wheel half a turn back and unscrew second Torx bolt T 30 -1-.
- Detach airbag unit connector -4-.
- Detach horn connector -6-.
- Put down airbag unit -5- in such a way that impact cushion faces upward.
- Installing
- Installation is in reverse order.
- Ensure that connector and catch engage fully (i.e. audibly).
- Ensure that no cable is on gas generator.
- Ensure that airbag cable is not trapped.
Lay airbag cable in a loop to the left.
- Lay horn cable in a loop to the outside.
- Tighten bolts -1- (2x) to a tightening torque of 7 Nm.
- Switch the ignition on.
WARNING!
There must be no one in the vehicle when the battery is being connected.
- Disconnect battery ground (GND) strap.
6 - Horn connector
7 - Multi-point socket-head bolt
- Tightening torque 50 Nm
8 - Connector for steering wheel heating
9 - Self-cancelling ring with slip ring
NOTE:
- After connecting the battery observe the necessary measures.
- If airbag malfunction warning lamp -K75- signals a malfunction after assembly, the DTC memory must be interrogated with vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051, then erased and re-interrogated.
