Battery, Removing And Installing

Removing
Read caution before beginning repairs on the electrical system.

- Switch ignition off.
- Remove rubber seal from plenum chamber cover.






- Remove plenum chamber cover -1- from the front -arrows-.







- Disconnect Ground (GND) strap -1- on battery negative terminal and disconnect positive cable -2- at battery positive terminal.
- Loosen bolt -4- using a ball head hex socket wrench only until socket head rubs against suspension cross-brace.
- Leave socket-head bolt and securing bracket -3- in place, and swivel out battery from under securing bracket.







- Disconnect angle piece of central gas venting system -arrow-.
- Lift battery out of plenum chamber.

Installing


NOTE:
Batteries from the Audi Parts Program have a bottom strip-adapter for adapting to different grip channels. Whether and how bottom strip-adapter is used, refer to operating instructions for battery.







- Insert battery into battery holder so that tab of rear battery holder - arrow- engages into cutout for battery clamping strip -1-.
- Battery must no longer be shifted.







- Battery is properly inserted when center cutout of battery clamping strip aligns with threaded hole in battery holder -arrows-.

Installation is reverse of removal, paying attention to the following:
- Observe notes for central venting of battery.







With ignition switched off and electrical consumers switched off, connect battery in the following sequence:
- Connect terminal clamp of positive cable on battery positive terminal "+" by hand and tighten nut -2-.
- Connect terminal clamp of Ground (GND) wire to battery negative terminal "-" by hand and tighten nut -1-.
- Check battery for proper seating after installation.


NOTE:
- When reconnecting the battery, remember to activate vehicle equipment (radio/radio navigation system, clock, electric window, ) in accordance with owner's manual.
- Deactivate service mode of Telematic Control Module.
- Follow further measures after reconnecting power supply.
- After reconnecting voltage supply, ABS Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) only goes out after driving several meters.

Tightening torques
Bolt to securing bracket: 12 Nm
Battery terminal to battery post: 6 Nm
