Trapezium link, removing and installing
Note: For wheel alignment following repair work, Refer to Wheel Alignment, Description and Operation.
Removing
- Remove floor pan panels in front of trapezoidal link.
- Removing coil spring.
- Remove parking brake cable from holder below trapezoidal link. To do so, unfasten bolts.
- In vehicles with headlight range control, unscrew bolt -1-.
- Disconnect cable guide for speed sensor.
- Unscrew bolt -1-. Hold joint fast with open-ended wrench.
- Mark position of eccentric bolt -5- on subframe.
- Remove trapezoidal link (items 3 to 6).
Note: Lower subframe slightly when removing bolts from all wheel drive vehicles and removing right trapezoidal link in front-wheel drive vehicles.
All wheel drive vehicles
- Unbolting drive shaft from final drive.
- Unbolt shock absorber from transverse link -1-.
- Disconnect parking brake cables from fuel tank.
- Unbolt brake caliper.
- Unbolt shield of right drive axle (removing right trapezoidal link).
- Lower subframe slightly.
Removing left trapezoidal link in front-wheel drive vehicles
- Unfasten heat shield in front of eccentric bolt from body and push to one side.
Removing right trapezoidal link in front-wheel drive vehicles
- Unscrew shock absorber from hub carrier.
- Unbolt brake caliper.
- Lower subframe slightly.
Further procedure for all vehicles
- Unbolt trapezoidal link (items -3- to -6-).
Note: While doing this make sure that subframe is securely held.
Installing
Pay particular attention to the following on installation:
Note: Replacing bolts and self-locking nuts.
- Install subframe.
- Install shock absorber.
- Install brake caliper.
- Bolt on drive shaft.
- Bolt on shield for drive axle.
- Initially tighten bolts -3-, -4-, -5-, -6- to 20 Nm.
- Mount cable guide -2-.
- Tighten bolt -1- to 45 Nm.
- Install coil spring.
- Attach parking brake cable to bracket.
- Proceed as follows to tighten bolted joints -3-, -4-, -5- and -6-:
- Lower vehicle onto wheels and loosen bolted joints.
- Bounce vehicle several times.
- Tighten bolts.
Tightening torques:
Item 5: 95 Nm (bring eccentric bolt into former position)
Items 3, 4 and 6: 85 Nm plus additional 90° turn
- Check wheel alignment.
