Front Final Drive Gear Oil Level, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Socket SW 8 (3247)
• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782 )
• Angled hex socket wrench 8 mm
• Protective glasses
Test Conditions
• Gear oil temperature approximately 60 °C, perform road test if necessary.
• Wait 2 minutes after turning off the engine so that the gear oil and flow back into the front final drive.
Procedure
• General repair notes. Refer to => [ Repair Information ] .
• Observe cleanliness rules when working on automatic transmissions. Refer to => [ Cleanliness Working Conditions ] .
- Move the vehicle onto a lifting platform or over a work pit so that it is absolutely level.
- Place Used Oil Collection and Extraction Device ( V.A.G 1782) under transmission.
CAUTION!
Wear protective glasses.
- Remove oil filler hole sealing plug - arrow - with an angled hex socket wrench 8 mm.
• To loosen sealing plug, only use the angled hex socket wrench, not the Socket SW 8 (3247).
• If the sealing plug is not accessible enough, loosen heat shield and, if necessary, remove drive axle on transmission and lay aside.
• The fluid level must be at the bottom edge of the inspection opening.
- Drain off excess gear oil or fill to correct level; for the specification. Refer to => [ Capacities ] .
• Sealing plug with sealing ring must be replaced.
- Tighten new oil filler hole sealing plug with Socket SW 8 (3247).
