Front brakes (C54) servicing

Special tools and equipment


^ V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench
^ V.A.G 1410 Torque wrench
^ V.A.G 1869/2 Brake pedal depressor





Note:

^ Always install complete repair kit
^ After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in the normal operating position.
^ To draw off brake fluid from the reservoir; use a bleeder bottle which is used only for brake fluid. Brake fluid is poisonous and must on no account be siphoned out by mouth using a hose!
^ The tightening torque of the brake lines is 15 Nm.






1 - Brake disc cover
2 - Flange bolt, 10 Nm
^ M6x12
3 - Brake hose
^ Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads
4 - Spring clip
5 - Brake line, 15 Nm
^ Screw into brake caliper housing
^ Screw into brake hose, counter holding at hex on brake hose.




6 - Self-locking bolt, 30 Nm
^ Always replace
^ When loosening and tightening counter hold on guide pin
7 - Ribbed bolt, 190 Nm
^ Clean ribbing if reusing
8 - Brake carrier with guide pin and protective cap





9 - Brake disc
^ Always replace on both sides of car
^ Remove brake caliper prior to removing
^ Always dress evenly on both sides starting from thickness when new
10 - Heat shield
^ Insert into piston
11 - Brake caliper housing
^ Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads
12 - Retainer
^ Bolt to brake caliper housing
13 - Hex bolt, 10 Nm





14 - Brake Pads
^ Different versions available
^ Parts catalog
^ With wear indicator on left and right sides
^ Once the wear limit is reached (limit: 2 to 3 mm), the warning light in the instrument cluster comes on.

^ Remove from bracket Item 16 when changing pads
