ATF, draining or filling after repair
Procedure
Caution!
The engine must not be started and the vehicle must not be towed if there is no Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) in the transmission!
Engine switched off.
Move vehicle onto a lifting platform or over a work pit so that it is absolutely level.
Fill reservoir of the ATF filler tool (VAG 1924) with ATF for automatic transmission 01V.
CAUTION!
The ATF filler tool must be clean and the ATF must not be mixed with any other ATF oils!
Secure ATF filler tool (VAG 1924) reservoir as high as possible on vehicle.
Draining ATF
Place used oil collection and extraction device (VAG 1782) under transmission.
CAUTION!
Wear eye protection.
Remove ATF drain plug -1-
Drain ATF.
Drain plug with sealing ring must be replaced
Tighten new drain plug -1- to 40 Nm
Filling transmission with ATF
CAUTION!
Transmission must be filled exactly according to instructions.
Remove ATF inspection plug -2-
Guide filler hook of ATF filler tool VAG 1924 into an opening -arrow- of protective cap, do not push cap up and in while doing so.
Add ATF using ATF filler tool VAG 1924 until ATF exits from check hole.
Place selector lever in position "P" .
Start engine and allow it to run at idle approx. 20 minutes.
Stop engine.
Fill ATF again with ATF filler tool VAG 1924 until ATF escapes from inspection hole.
Start engine and allow it to run at idle.
Continue to add ATF using ATF filler tool VAG 1924 until ATF exits again from check hole.
Tighten ATF inspection plug.
With engine idling, depress the brake pedal and shift the selector lever through all the selector lever positions, leaving selector lever in each position for at least 10 seconds.
Place selector lever in position "P" .
