Fuel Tank, Draining

Work sequence

CAUTION: After reconnecting vehicle battery on vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module.

- Vehicles with coded radio/navigation system (RNS) coding, refer to the Owner's Manual, if necessary.







- Remove cover above battery -arrow-.

NOTE: On vehicles without separate battery cover: Remove plenum cover.







- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (GND) cable.

CAUTION: Fasten the grounding strap of the VAS 5190 to an acceptable ground location on the vehicle.

A - Procedure on fuel tank more than 1/4 full







- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (GND) cable.
- Remove cone piece -2- from hose -1- of the VAS 5190.
- Mark location on hose -arrow- with a piece of insulating tape.
- a = 1205 mm

- Remove fuel cap from filler neck..







- Install hose -1- of VAS 5190 to filler neck of the fuel tank.
- Push suction hose into fuel tank up to marking tape -arrow-.

NOTE: Only push the suction hose up to the marking tape so that the fuel sender is not damaged.

- Empty fuel tank.
- Carefully remove suction hose
- Remove the fuel sender and sealing ring, see "B - Procedure on fuel tank less than 1/4 full
- Suction the remaining fuel out of both right and left fuel tanks.

NOTE:







- The Suction device can be used in the same manner without the hose.
- Mark location on hose -arrow- with a piece of insulating tape.
- a = 1205 mm
- The suction hose -1- is installed completely when marking tape is at the edge of the fuel filler neck.
- If installation of suction hose is difficult, lightly coat hose with engine oil. Under no circumstances should silicone lubricants be used.

B - Procedure on fuel tank less than 1/4 full

Limousine:
- Remove cover for sender for fuel gauge located under liner in luggage compartment.

Avant:
- Remove liner for floor covering

All:
- If necessary; fold the left rear seat back forward.







- Remove cover -arrow- for fuel tank sender.







- Carefully release 2-pin connector -arrow- and disconnect







- Remove union nut with wrench 2012 A.
- Pull fuel supply sensor 3 together with seal out of fuel tank opening.
- Draw off remaining fuel in left and right chambers of fuel tank through opening for sensor unit.
- Re-install fuel supply sensor 3 with seal.







- Draw off remaining fuel in left and right chambers of fuel tank through opening for sensor unit using VAS 5190.
- Re-install fuel supply sensor 3 with seal.
