End Cover, Removing and Installing


Special Tools and Equipment





- Pry lever 80-200





- Triple square socket driver 3357
- Drip tray

CAUTION! Do not run the engine or tow the vehicle if the end cover has been removed or if there is inadequate ATF in the transmission.

Removing
- Raise vehicle.





- Loosen mounting parts -3- and -4- and remove rear part of noise insulation.
- Place drip tray beneath transmission.





- Remove ATF drain plug -A- using triple square socket driver 3357 and drain ATF.
- Tighten ATF drain plug to 24 Nm.





- If installed, remove bolts -1- to -4- on both floor cross members.

Note: Flex joint in front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10, otherwise it may be damaged.





- Disconnect exhaust system at clamps (arrows).





- Release connector-A- in direction of arrow and unplug it from transmission.
- Uncover wiring harness.





- Remove holder -3- for selector lever cable. To do so, unscrew bolts -2-.





- Use pressing lever 80-200 to push selector lever cable -A- off selector shaft lever-arrow-.





- Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove end cover.

Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to following:

Note: Replace gaskets and O-rings.





- Push new double-lip sealing ring -A- onto connector of automatic transmission control module -J217 with double lip facing outward.
- Clean sealing surfaces on transmission housing and end cover.





- Replace paper gasket -A- for end cover.





- Place end cover on transmission housing making sure that paper gasket does not move.
- Tighten bolts -arrows- to 25 Nm in diagonal sequence.
- Check installation position of double lip sealing ring -A-: it must lie flat around control module connector (sealing lips must not be twisted).





- Check whether selector lever is set to "P", then carefully push ball socket of selector lever cable -5- onto selector shaft lever -7- .

Note: Do not bend the selector shaft lever when pushing on the ball socket (counter hold if necessary), otherwise it will no longer be possible to adjust the selector mechanism precisely.

- Tighten bolts -2- securing holder-3 for selector lever cable to transmission (23 Nm).
- Check adjustment of selector lever cable.
- Install exhaust system free of tension:
- Fill with new ATF.
