Rear Flange Shaft Seal

Tools required





- 3402-thrust tube

Removing
- Remove front exhaust pipes:





- Remove heat shield for drive shaft from cover for Torsen differential (arrows).





- Remove drive shaft -1- at transmission and place this on the heat shield -2-
- Secure drive shaft to bracket for fuel lines using wire (arrow) or support drive shaft using VAG1383A transmission lift.
- Drain transmission fluid from transfer case.





- Unbolt flange shaft, hold flange shaft with drift to prevent it from turning.
- Remove flange shaft.





- Remove seal with suitable screwdriver.

Installing
- Install in reverse order. In addition, perform the following work steps.





- Drive in seal as far as possible with 3402.
- Fasten flange shaft with hex socket bolt.
- Secure drive shaft to transmission flange.
- Check and fill transmission fluid in differential
