Spur gear-2 needle bearing, replacing

The following special tools are required for this work procedure:





- VW 402 Thrust plate
- VW 408 A Punch
- 2080 A Sleeve
- Item 1, KUKKO 21/4 Internal extractor
- Item 4, KUKKO 22/1 Puller
- VAG 1416

Removing
Remove differential.

Note:
- The upper part of the illustration shows how the removal hook of the internal extractor-B is installed into the needle bearing.
- Move centering sleeve -2- of the inner extractor-B- approximately 4 mm in direction of arrow to open hook of extractor.





A - puller KUKKO 22/1





- Squeeze inner extractor-B- into upper lip of needle bearing -1- and secure inner extractor at nut
- Set up puller-A- and inner extractor B- as shown.
- Support puller-A- with pressure plate VW 402 and pre-tighten with nut-3 of puller.
- Use a commercial hot air gun to warm outer differential housing in area around seat of needle bearing from 80 to 100°C (159 to 212°F).

WARNING!: Wear protective gloves!

- Pull out needle bearing smoothly.

Installing
Install in reverse order. In addition, perform the following work steps:
- Check needle bearing seat in differential housing for damage and rework if necessary.
- Use a commercial hot air gun to warm outer differential housing in area around seat of needle bearing from 80 to 100°C (159 to 212°F).

WARNING!: Wear protective gloves!





- Place 2080A sleeve onto new needle bearing -1-.
- Drive needle bearing to impact in transfer case using VW408A punch.
