Alignment: Description and Operation


Wheel Alignment
General Information

Note:
^ Wheels should not be aligned until the vehicle has been driven 1,000-2,000 km, since it takes this long for the coil springs to settle (not applicable for Allroad).
^ Vehicle instability can also be caused by the wheels having a residual imbalance and/or radial runout which is too great.

Always measure wheel alignment using VW/Audi-approved wheel alignment equipment.
Wheel alignment checks must always include both front and rear axles.

Note:
^ Men making adjustments the relevant specifications must be adhered to as closely as possible.
^ Otherwise, the proper vehicle driveability cannot be ensured.

Note:
^ Ensure proper attachment and adjustment of measuring equipment pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions.

If appropriate, have manufacturer of wheel alignment equipment provide a course of instruction.
Wheel alignment platform and wheel alignment equipment/computer may start to deviate over the course of time from their original position/setting.

Explanation of weight codes (Part numbers)
Various suspensions are offered as options. These are identified by Part numbers.
Suspension version installed in vehicle is indicated by the factory weight code on the vehicle data sticker (arrow).

Vehicle data sticker is located at rear in spare tire well.
The following table shows the meaning of the Part numbers which are critical for wheel alignment.





Part No. for suspension versions is shown in figure (arrow).
In this example the vehicle has standard suspension 1BA (arrow) installed.
1BA = standard suspension
1BE = sport suspension
1BP = rough terrain suspension 1 (curb weight position like 1 BA, but with spring limitation)
1BT = rough terrain suspension 1 + and slight reinforcement (about 7 mm raised position)
1BB = rough terrain suspension 2 (about 20 mm raised position)
1BG = suspension with level control system
1BC = special-purpose vehicles (fire department, medical emergency, police, etc.)
1BH = suspension for USA
1BD = Audi S6 sport suspension
1BJ suspension for light armor
1BY Suspension for Allroad (4 - wheel air suspension)
1BV = Sports suspension Audi RS6 Quattro GmbH
2MC = Sports suspension Audi RS6 Quattro GmbH (Sport suspension with variable shock absorber)
2ME = Sports suspension Audi RS6 Quattro GmbH (Super Sport suspension with shock absorber)

Wheel alignment must be checked If:





^ The vehicle shows handling problems.
^ There is accident damage.
^ Axle components have been removed.
^ Tires are worn on one side.
