Fuel Tank, Draining
- Procedure on fuel tank more than 3/4 full
- Procedure on fuel tank less than 3/4 full
Special tools and required equipment
- VAS 5190
Work sequence
- Vehicles with coded radio/navigation system (RNS) coding, refer to the Owner's Manual, if necessary.
WARNING: On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery.
- Remove cover above battery -arrow-.
NOTE: On vehicles without battery cover: Remove plenum cover.
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) cable -arrow- with ignition switched off.
CAUTION: Fasten the grounding strap of the VAS 5190 to an acceptable ground location on the vehicle.
A - Procedure on fuel tank that contains more than 3/4 fuel
- Remove cone piece -2- from hose -1- of VAS 5190.
- Mark location on hose -arrow- with a piece of insulating tape.
- Push test hose -2- -arrow- into fuel filler neck until marking is lined up with fuel filler neck.
- a = 1115 mm
- Remove fuel cap from filler neck.
- Install hose -1- of VAS 5190 to filler neck of the fuel tank.
- Push suction hose into fuel tank up to marking tape -arrow-.
NOTE:
- Mark the position of the hose with a piece of tape -arrow-.
- a = 1050 mm
- At the lower end of the filler hose in the fuel tank -1- is a check plate - located, which is to be opened via the hose (suction hose) -2-. For this reason push hose to marking.
- Do not push hose any further than the marking into the fuel tank. Otherwise the hose moves upward and only a little amount of fuel in sucked out.
- If hose is hard to push into fuel tank, coat hose lightly with clean engine oil. Do not use under any circumstances silicone based lubricants.
- Drain fuel tank via fuel filler neck as much as possible.
- Carefully remove suction hose.
- Remove ring nut for fuel delivery module.
- Suction rest of fuel via opening for fuel delivery module.
B - Procedure on fuel tank that contains less than 3/4 fuel
- Remove ring nut for fuel delivery module.
- Suction fuel via opening for fuel delivery module.
