Delivery pressure of power steering pump, checking

Special tools and equipment





^ 3094 hose clamps





^ VAG 1402 power steering tester





^ Unclip upper part of engine cover and remove.





^ Pinch off intake line and return line using 3094 hose clamps.





^ Unbolt line from expansion hose (arrow), counterhold hex bolt of expansion hose.
^ Bolt VAG 1402 pressure gauge to part of expansion hose that leads to power steering pump.

^ Close shut-off on pressure gauge (lever faces toward left).
^ Remove 3094 hose clamps.
^ If necessary, add fluid to power steering fluid reservoir.

Check pressure:

Note:
To avoid damaging the pump, note Me following:
^ Do not allow the engine to run more than 10 seconds during the test
^ Start the engine without depressing the accelerator pedal and let the engine idle.
^ Make a note of the pressure immediately after starting the engine when it is idling (this may require a second technician).
^ As the pressure drops during the check, the highest pressure is definitive.
Specification: 110.120 bar

^ Turn engine off.
If specification is not obtained, replace the power steering pump.
^ Check fluid level
^ Bleed steering system
^ Check steering system for leaks
