WARNING! Before commencing work on a running engine, make sure that the selector lever is set to "P" and the parking brake is applied.
Ignition key removal lock, checking
- Turn ignition key to driving position (ignition ON).
- Press and hold down foot brake.
- It must be possible to shift selector lever smoothly out of "P" when locking button in selector lever handle is pressed.
- It should only be possible to remove ignition key when selector lever is set to "P".
- Shift selector lever to "P".
- It should be possible to turn ignition key smoothly to removal position without key "jamming".
- Remove ignition key.
- It should only be possible to remove ignition key when selector lever is set to "P".
- Selector lever cannot be shifted out of "P" when button and foot brake are pressed.
Shift mechanism, checking
Selector lever set to "P" and ignition switched on:
- Brake pedal not pressed:
- Selector lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of position "P" with the button at selector lever handle pressed. Shift lock solenoid is locking the selector lever.
- Brake pedal pressed:
- Shift lock solenoid enables the selector lever. Selecting a driving mode must be possible with the button at shift handle pressed without "sticking".
- Slowly shift selector lever through "P" via " R. N. D" while checking if the selector lever position in instrument cluster matches with the selector lever position.
Selector lever set to "N" and ignition switched on:
- Brake pedal not pressed:
- Selector lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of position "N" with the button at selector lever handle pressed. Shift lock solenoid is locking the selector lever.
Brake pedal pressed:
- Shift lock solenoid enables the selector lever. Selecting a driving mode must be possible with the button at shift handle pressed without "sticking".
Selector lever set to "D" and ignition switched on:
- Guide selector lever into Tiptronic gate. Brightening of "D" symbol must turn off and the "+" and "-" symbols must light up.
- Start engine and leave it idling.
- Apply parking brake and press brake pedal.
- The display of the selector lever position in the instrument cluster must change from "POND" to "654321" when shifting selector lever into the Tiptronic gate.
Notes:
^ It must not be possible to actuate the starter when the selector lever is set to "D" and "R".
^ If the selector lever is set to "N" at speeds above 5 km/h, the selector lever lock solenoid must not engage and lock the selector lever. The selector lever can be shifted to a gear.
^ If the selector lever is set to "N" at speeds below 2 km/h (almost stationary), the selector lever lock solenoid should only engage after approximately 1 s. The selector lever cannot be shifted out of "N" until the brake pedal is pressed.
