Cooling System: Testing and Inspection

Cooling system, checking for leaks

Test requirements:
Engine at normal operating temperature.

WARNING: Hot steam can escape from the expansion tank when the filler cap is opened. Cover the filler cap with a cloth and unscrew if carefully.

- Unscrew filler cap on expansion tank.





- Fit tester V.A.G 1274 and adapter V.A.G 1274/8 on expansion tank.
- Build up a pressure of approximately 1.0 bar with hand pump on tester.
- If this pressure is not maintained, trace and repair leaks.

- Screw filler cap onto tester with adapter V.A.G 1274/9.





- Fit hand pump and build up pressure.
- Pressure relief valve should open at 1.4 - 1.6 bar.
