Front Final Drive Gear Oil, Filling after Repair
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Socket SW 8 (3247)
- Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
- Angled hex socket wrench 8 mm
- Protective glasses
Filling
General repair notes. Refer to [Repair Information].
Observe cleanliness rules when working on automatic transmissions. Refer to [Clean Working Conditions].
Move the vehicle onto a lifting platform or over a work pit so that it is absolutely level.
Place used oil collection and extraction device (V.A.G 1782) under transmission.
Remove oil filler hole sealing plug -arrow- with an angled hex socket wrench 8 millimeter (mm).
Fill front final drive with gear oil (quantities and specification, refer to [Specifications]) slowly and evenly over a period of at least 5 minutes until oil drips from bottom of inspection hole.
A filling time of at least 5 minutes is required so that the internal oil level between the differential and oil fill space can equalize.
Install old sealing plug.
Take vehicle for a test drive to heat gear oil to approximately 60°C (140°F).
Check oil level in front final drive. Refer to [Front Final Drive Oil Level, Checking].
Tighten new oil filler hole sealing plug with socket SW 8 (3247).
Tightening Specifications
Oil filler hole sealing plug 35 Nm
