Center Console (without Extension), Removing And Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required







- Trim removal wedge 3409
- Protective cap VAS 6223/9
- Radio removal tool T10057

Removing

NOTE: All wire ties unfastened or cut open on removal are to be re-attached at same location on installation.

CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-off emergency (back-up) battery for Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery. Switch-on emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting vehicle battery.

- Move front seats to rearmost position and set backrests to 45 degrees position.
- Switch ignition off and remove ignition key.

CAUTION: When disconnecting battery observe necessary measures

- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (GND) wire.

CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for working on airbag.

- Remove airbag module and steering wheel.







- Remove left instrument panel end trim - arrow -.







- Separate trim panel - 1 - from instrument panel using Trim removal wedge 3409 - arrows -.
- Open storage compartment.
- Slide trim for storage compartment to left out of fastener - arrow - and remove.
- Open glove box.







- Starting from above glove box, carefully separate trim panel - 1 - with switch module from instrument panel using Trim removal wedge 3409.

NOTE: Take particular care when unfastening clip on driver side end of trim panel.







- Disconnect connector.
- Remove knee bar - arrows -.







- Disconnect connectors.

CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for working on airbag.







- Vehicles with knee airbag: Pull catch - 2 - in direction of - arrow - and disconnect connectors - 1 - and - 3 -.







- Remove right instrument panel end trim - arrow -.
- If applicable, remove CD changer as follows:







- Insert 2 keys of Radio release tool T10057 in front of CD changer.
- Top L-Top left
- Top R-Top right
- Pull CD changer out of mounting frame.
- Disconnect connector.
- Disconnect connector for optical fibre.







- Open wiring harness connector protective cap - 2 - of wire with Protective cap VAS 6223/9 - Item 1 -.

NOTE: Protective cap is designed to prevent contamination of or mechanical damage to end face of optical fibre, which would impair signal transmission.

- Press catches at CD changer and pull release tool out of CD changer.







- If applicable, remove storage compartment in glove box. To do so, use small screwdriver to release retainer tabs - 1 - and - 2 - in direction of - arrow -.
- Remove storage compartment from glove box.
- Remove bolts - arrows -.







- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 -







- Disconnect connector - 1 - for glove compartment wiring harness - 2 - from supply lead - 3 -.

CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for working on airbag.

- Vehicles with knee airbag: Pull catch - 2 - in direction of - arrow -and disconnect connectors - 1 - and - 3 -.







- Remove glove box.

Vehicles without Rear A/C Control Head (Climatronic) E265
- Open rear ashtray - 2 -.
- Remove trim - 1 - from mounting frame - arrow -.







- Close ashtray.







- Remove ashtray in direction of - arrow - from mounting frame.

Vehicles with Rear A/C Control Head (Climatronic) E265







- Remove trim - 1 - off mounting frame using Trim removal wedge 3409 - arrow -

All models:
- Remove bolts - arrows -.







- Remove mounting frame - 1 - with air vents and ashtray/ Rear A/C Control Head (Climatronic) E265.







NOTE: To disconnect connector at Rear A/C Control Head (Climatronic) E265, press catch - 1 -, turn bracket in direction of - arrow -and disconnect connector.







- Disconnect connectors - 1... 4 -.







- Remove nuts - arrows - for rear center console.

Vehicles with split center armrest
- Fold center armrests upward.







- Lift off armrest hinge trim - arrow -.
- Remove bolts - arrows -.
- Disconnect connectors for storage compartment illumination (accessible through opening for rear ventilation).







- Lift off center armrests.

Vehicles with one-piece center armrest
- Fold center armrest upward.

All models







- Use Trim removal wedge 3409 to remove front corners of storage compartment out of center console - arrow 1 - and pull storage compartment forward - arrow 2 -.







- Disconnect connectors - 1 - and - 2 - and remove storage compartment.
- Disconnect connectors - 1 -.







- Remove bolts - arrows - on either side of center console.







- Press button - arrow - and remove insert - 1 - for front ashtray.







- Remove bolt - arrow - and remove housing for front ashtray.
- Disconnect connector.







- Lift off center console switch trim - arrows -
- Disconnect connectors.
- Remove bolts - 2 -.
- Release retaining springs - 1 - with small screwdriver - arrow -.
- Swivel top edge of Climatronic Control Module J255 to rear.







- Remove Rear A/C Control Head (Climatronic) E265 from mount.
- Disconnect connectors - A through E - by releasing retainer tab - G -.







- Disconnect connector- F -.







- Remove bolts - arrows -.







- Press on rocker - A - of selector lever emergency release mechanism.
- At same time, move selector lever from "P" to "D".
- Turn collar - 1 - to left and push it down as far as it will go.
- Remove shift/selector knob - 2 - for selector lever.







- Release fasteners - 1 - on either side of shift mechanism - arrow - and lift up trim panel - 3 -.
- Disconnect connector - 2 - and remove trim panel.
- Raise center console at rear and disconnect connectors on underside of center console.







- Remove center console to rear.

Installing
Install in reverse order, note following:







- On installing trim panel - 1 - with switch module, make sure both catches are inserted in center of trim panel between instrument panel and monitor housing - arrows -.

CAUTION: Observe measures to be taken after connecting battery.
