Ribbed belt, removing and installing

Note: Before removing the ribbed belt, mark the direction of rotation with chalk or a felt pen. If a used belt rotates in the wrong direction when reinstalled, it can break.





Special tools and workshop equipment required
^ Locking pin T10060

Removing

Note: Before raising the vehicle on a hoist (wheels off the ground), first activate the vehicle jack mode.





Vehicles with auxiliary/additional heater
- Unscrew bolts (arrows)for exhaust pipe of auxiliary/additional heater at sound insulation under engine compartment.

Removing





- Release fasteners -1- and take off sound insulation.

Note:
^ Mark direction of rotation of ebbed belt. The belt can break if it rotates in the opposite direction when re-installed.
^ Check that the belt is properly seated on pulleys when installing





- To remove belt, loosen belt tension by rotating tensioner as shown (direction of arrow) using a 19 mm box wrench. When two holes line up insert locking pin T1 0060.

Installing
Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:

Note: Check alignment of ribbed belt,
^ after replacing the following components:
^ Power steering pump
^ Air conditioner compressor
^ Bracket for power steering pump and A/C compressor





- Install ribbed belt on belt pulleys in the following sequence.
1 - Upper idler wheel
2 - Crankshaft
3 - Lower idler wheel
4 - Power steering pump
5 - A/C compressor
6 - Ribbed belt tensioner
7 - Alternator





- Turn ribbed belt tensioner in direction of arrow.
- Take out locking pin T10060.
- Ensure that ribbed belt is correctly routed and properly seated.
- Start engine and check that belt runs properly.
