Control Module: Testing and Inspection

Kick-down switch, testing





Special tools and workshop equipment required
^ V.A.G 1526 A
^ V.A.G 1594 A
^ VAS 5051 with VAS 5051/1

Test sequence
- Connect the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and select the vehicle system "02 - Transmission electronics" from the menu. When doing this the ignition must be switched on.





Display on VAS 5051:
- Select diagnosis function "08 - Read data block" from the menu -1-.





Display on VAS 5051:
1 - Enter display group
- Using the keypad -2-, enter "008" to select Display group 008 and confirm entry with Q button.





Display on VAS 5051:
- Check display in display zone -1-.
^ Gas pedal not depressed: No reading

- Slowly move accelerator pedal in direction of full throttle.
^ The reading must drop to 0 Ohms shortly after resistance to movement is felt at kick-down point.

- Press the < button to exit from the function "08 - Read data block".
- Select diagnosis function "06 - End output".

If the display values do not appear as described:





- Unscrew bolts (arrows) and remove cover for kick-down switch.
- Unplug electrical connector.
- Connect multimeter to kickdown switch (resistance test range)
^ Specification: x ohms (no continuity)

- Slowly move accelerator pedal in direction of full throttle.
^ The reading must drop to 0 Ohms shortly after resistance to movement is felt at kick-down point.

If the display values do not appear as described:
- Replace kick-down switch
