Lighting - Headlight Range Control Warning ON

Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 94 number 08-20 dated November 6, 2008 for reasons listed below.





Affected Vehicles





CONDITION

^ After engine start, the warning light for the headlight range control may come on and remain illuminated.

^ While driving, the warning light for the headlight range control may flash.

^ DTC 01316 is stored in the memory of the vertical headlight aim control (address word 55).

^ DTC 01317 (Control unit in the dash insert -J285 no signal/communication sporadic) is stored sporadically in the vertical headlight range control memory.

^ No DTCs are stored in the brake electronics control unit, and no brake-related DTCs are stored in the ECM or TCM. The ESP warning light does not come on.

^ The headlight function is not affected.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

An overly sensitive time-out detection triggers the briefly activated warning light and the sporadic data entry in the 55 - memory.

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

Modified control units with software version S004 and higher.

SERVICE

1. Perform the self-diagnosis, and check the software version of the control unit.

2. Replace control units with a software version below S004.
