CONDITION

DTC 0003 (control unit defect) is stored in the steering wheel electronics control unit (Address word 16); however, this DTC does not affect the function of the vehicle and the customer may not complain about a steering wheel control related issue.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

The entry in the steering control unit is incorrect.

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

Modified control units.

SERVICE

1. Switch on the ignition (terminal 15 active).

2. Delete the memory (address 16, steering wheel electronics).

3. Wait 10 - 15 seconds. (Terminal 15 stays active.)

4. Read the memory.

^ If the memory is empty, the steering wheel electronics can be left in the vehicle. The DTC was stored in error.

^ If the DTC returns, replace the steering wheel electronics.
