Differential

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Holding Fixture (VW 313)

• Holding Fixture (VW 540)

• Drip Tray (V.A.G 1306)

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

• Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A) with Universal Transmission Support (V.A.G 1359/2)

• Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

• The rear final drive is removed. Refer to => [ Rear Final Drive ] Audi A8

Place the rear final drive in the assembly stand => [ Place the Rear Final Drive in the Assembly Stand ] Differential Overview

- Place the (V.A.G 1306) underneath.

- Drain the gear oil.

- Remove the flange shaft bolt. While doing this, install the two bolts into the flange counterhold the flange shaft using a tire iron.





- Mark the left and right flange shafts and remove them.

- Remove the bolts from the rear final drive cover and then remove the cover.

- Remove the differential.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:

- Replace the O-ring for the rear final drive cover. Coat the O-ring with oil before installing it.

- Place the rear final drive cover on the axle housing and tighten the bolts diagonally - 6 - => [ TORX(R) Bolt ] Differential Overview.

- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Install the flange shafts and tighten them - 8 - => [ Hex Socket Bolt ] Differential Overview.





- Tighten the drain plug on the rear final drive - 12 - => [ Drain Plug ] Differential Overview.

- Fill the gear oil and check the level. Refer to => [ Rear Final Drive Gear Oil, Checking ] .
