Exhaust System: Adjustments

Alignment of exhaust system stress-free

Note: Exhaust system alignment is performed when cold.

Vehicles with no clamps between center and rear muffler
- Unfasten bolted joints for clamps.

- Slide exhaust system forward (arrow) until pre-tension at right rubber mounts at center muffler is: a = 5 to 9 mm.
- Tighten bolted joints for clamps evenly to 40 Nm.
- Align tailpipes.

Vehicles with clamps between center and rear muffler

Note: Additional alignment of center muffler is only required on vehicles with clamps between center and rear muffler.

- Loosen off bolted joints for clamps.

- Slide front part of exhaust system forwards (arrow) until pre-tension at rubber mounts at center muffler is a = 5 to 9 mm.
- Tighten bolted joints of front clamps evenly to 40 Nm.

- Slide rear part of exhaust system forward (arrow) until pre-tension at rear rubber mounts at rear muffler is a = 7 to 11 mm.
- Horizontally align rear muffler.
- Tighten bolted joints of rear clamps evenly to 40 Nm.
- Align tailpipes.

Tailpipe alignment

- Check distance between left and right tailpipe and bumper.
^ Dimension x on left = Dimension x on right
If necessary, correct dimension x as follows:

- Loosen bolts/nuts (arrows) of strut between exhaust pipes.
- Adjust spacing between rear mufflers.
- Tighten bolts/nuts to 25 Nm.

- Check distances -y- and -z- between tailpipes and bumper.
^ Dimension Y = 19 to 27 mm
^ Dimension z = 11 to 16 mm
- If necessary, check stress-free alignment of exhaust system.
