Delivery pressure of power steering pump, checking
Vehicles with B-cylinder gasoline engine
Special tools and equipment
^ 3094 hose clamp
^ VAG 1402 power steering tester
^ VAG1402/3 adapter
^ Remove cover for power steering fluid reservoir.
^ Pinch off intake line using 3094 hose clamp.
^ Unbolt expansion hose from power steering pump.
^ Install VAG 1402/3 adapter on power steering pump in place of the banjo bolt.
^ Install hose from VAG1402 pressure gauge on VAG 1402/3 adapter.
^ Close shut-off valve on pressure gauge (lever faces toward left).
^ Remove 3094 hose clamp and add fluid to power steering fluid reservoir if necessary.
Check pressure:
Note:
To avoid damaging pump, note the following:
^ Do not allow engine to run more than 10 seconds during the test
^ Start engine without depressing the accelerator pedal and let engine idle.
^ Make a note of pressure immediately after starting engine when it is idling (this may require a second technician).
^ As pressure drops during check, the highest pressure is definitive.
Specification: 120 -130 bar
^ Turn engine off.
If specification is not obtained, replace the power steering pump.
^ Check fluid level
^ Bleed steering system
^ Check steering system for leaks
