Fuel Pump (FP) -G6-, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items







- 3087 Wrench
- V.A.G 1526 A
- V.A.G 1594 A

Test conditions:
- Battery voltage at least 12.7 V
- Fuel Pump (FP) Control Module -J538- test. Testing and Inspection







- Safety device S81 (card location C) in the relay support driver's side behind the driver's side shelf







- Fuel pump relay on card location -4- in the central electrical connection behind the shelf driver's side
- Fuel filter OK
- Ignition switched off

Test sequence
- Remove rear seat







- Remove catch flange cover -arrows-
- Briefly operate starter
- Operating noise of pump must be audible

NOTE: During testing of the fuel pump, avoid any excess noises

No audible running noise from fuel pump:







- Connect the multimeter for voltage measurement to contacts -1- and -4- as shown, using probes and adapters from VAG 1594 A; the connection remains disconnected

NOTE: Connector pin locations have been numbered and are located on rear of connector


- Briefly operate starter
- Desired value: Briefly (approx. 1 second) approx. battery voltage, then it drops to 10 V

If the specified value is not obtained (no voltage at the fuel pump connector):
- Check control module for fuel pump. Testing and Inspection

If specified value is not obtained, although no operating noise is audible from the pump:

WARNING: Fuel supply lines are under pressure. Before loosening any lines, cover the connection with a rag. Release the pressure by slowly separating the connection.







- Remove fuel advance line -1- and fuel return pipe -2-

WARNING: Catch flange can only be opened with the fuel tank at maximum 1/4 full. otherwise, fuel tank must be drained.







- Remove fuel sender retaining ring with tool 3087 Wrench.
- Remove catch flange and sealing ring from the opening of the fuel tank







- Check if the electrical connection between the flange and fuel pump is connected and/or check continuity.

If no problem in the lines exist, fuel pump is defective - Replace fuel
pump.
- Installing fuel pump, Observe notice for connecting battery.
