Exhaust System, Component Overview







- Replace if damaged
- Replace
- Tighten uniformly in several stages
- For cylinder bank 1 (right)
- Removing and installing Right exhaust manifold, removing and installing
- For cylinder bank 1 (right)
- Threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with hot bolt paste high-temperature lubricant; paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body
- When re-using previous oxygen sensor, grease threads with hot bolt paste; paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body. Hot bolt paste Parts Catalog
- Use ring nut spanner 7-piece set 3337 to remove and install
- Tighten to 55 Nm
- Replace

- Cylinder bank 2 (left)
- Removing and installing Left exhaust manifold, removing and installing
- For cylinder bank 2 (left)
- Threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with hot bolt paste high-temperature lubricant; paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body
- When re-using previous oxygen sensor, grease threads with hot bolt paste; paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body. Hot bolt paste Parts Catalog
- Use ring nut spanner 7-piece set 3337 to remove and install
- Tighten to 55 Nm
- For left side of vehicle
- With decoupling element
- Decoupling element must not be bent more than 10 otherwise it may be damaged
- Protect from hit- and impact stress
- Removing and installing: Vehicles with manual transmission
- Individual mounting components for vehicles with manual transmission
- Individual mounting components for vehicles with automatic transmission
- Install exhaust system free of stress
- Installed position
- Before tightening, ensure exhaust system is free of tension
- Tighten bolts evenly
- For cylinder bank 2 (left)
- Threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with hot bolt paste high-temperature lubricant; paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body
- When re-using previous oxygen sensor, grease threads with hot bolt paste; paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body. Hot bolt paste.
- Use ring nut spanner 7-piece set 3337 to remove and install
- Tighten to 55 Nm
- For cylinder bank 1 (right)
- Threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with hot bolt paste high-temperature paste; paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body

- Use ring nut spanner 7-piece set 3337 to remove and install
- Tighten to 55 Nm
- For right side of vehicle
- With decoupling element
- Decoupling element must not be bent more than 10 otherwise it may be damaged
- Protect from hit- and impact stress
- Removing and installing: Vehicles with manual transmission
- Individual components of suspension
- Install exhaust system free of stress
- For left side of vehicle
- Factory-installed with center muffler as one unit. If repair is necessary, replace separately
- Separating point
- With exhaust flap - checking exhaust flap
- Install exhaust system free of stress
- Replace if damaged
- For right side of vehicle
- Factory-installed with center muffler as one unit. If repair is necessary,replace separately
- Separating point
- With exhaust flap - checking exhaust
- Install exhaust system free of stress
- Used when center or rear muffler is replaced separately.
- Installed position
- Before tightening, ensure exhaust system is free of tension
- Tighten bolts evenly
- Factory-installed with rear muffler as one unit. If repair is necessary, replace separately







Installed position of front double clamps
- Install double clamps so that bolt ends do not project over lower edge of double clamp.
- Threaded connections face each other







Installed position of rear double clamps
- Install double clamps so that bolt ends do not project over lower edge of double clamp.
- Threaded connections point toward the right
