Fuel Pump, Testing (Electrical Test)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Remote control V.A.G 1348/3A with adapter cable V.A.G 1348/3-2
- Portable multimeter V.A.G 1526 B
- Connector test set V.A.G 1594 C
Test conditions
- Battery voltage at least 12.5 V.
- Fuse on fuse panel S228 (position 28) OK.
- Fuel Pump (FP) Relay J17. arrow - at position 1 in 9-socket relay carrier behind the driver side storage compartment is OK.
- Fuel filter OK
- Ignition switched off.
Test sequence
- Open fuse box cover at left side of instrument cluster.
- Pull out fuse on fuse panel S228 (left row, 5th large fuse from top).
- Connect remote control V.A.G 1348/3A with adapter cable V.A.G 1348/3-2 to the right socket terminal of S228.
- Connect alligator clip to vehicle battery (+).
- Press switch on remote control.
- Running noise of pump must be audible.
NOTE: Fuel Pump (FP) runs quietly. Avoid surrounding noises while testing the fuel pump.
If no operating noise can be heard:
- Remove rear seat bench
- Unbolt cover for right locking flange - arrows -.
- Disconnect electrical harness connector - 1 - at right locking flange.
NOTE: Ignore - Pos. 2.
- Connect hand multimeter V.A.G 1526 B between terminal - 1 - and - 4. for voltage measurement.
- Press switch on remote control.
- Specification: approx. battery voltage.
If specification is not obtained:
- Repair open circuit in wiring according to wiring diagram.
If specified value is obtained, although no running-noise can be heard at pump:
- Remove fuel delivery unit
- Check if electrical wiring between flange and fuel pump is connected and has continuity.
If no malfunction is detected in wires, Fuel Pump (FP) is faulty - replace fuel pump.
- Install fuel delivery unit.
