Satellite Radio, Activating
Upon initial installation or subsequent replacement of satellite radio receiver, it must be activated in conjunction with the satellite radio service provider (XM(R) or SIRIUS(R)).
Receiver activation can only take place once certain data is provided to the satellite radio service providers call center.
Data includes customers name, billing address, VIN and satellite radio unit identification.
Inform call center if satellite radio installation is initial (new) installation or subsequent (replacement) installation.
NOTE:
- Successful satellite receiver activation is entirely dependent on the vehicles satellite antenna having an unobstructed view of the sky.
- Should activation difficulties be encountered, relocate vehicle away from any large structures that could obstruct the satellite signal, or terrestrial repeater signal used in built-up areas.
- The following procedures are specific to a subsequent replacement of satellite radio unit replacement, where customer details are already known to service provider.
- Customer call center telephone number Information know to be correct at time of publication.
Prerequisites:
- Customer confirmed to be XM(R) or SIRIUS(R) subscriber.
- Satellite Radio R146 installed and connected
- Radio R coded for satellite radio operation
- Vehicle is outside, on high level ground with no overhead obstructions
- Ignition on
SIRIUS(R) - Step 1: Capture Station Identification (SID)
- Turn radio on and press "SAT" button.
- Turn radio to test/preview channel "184" (stream) to verify proper installation.
- Tune to channel "0" (stream) on the SR band to display the 12-digit numeric SID and note it for use when contacting SIRIUS call center.
SIRIUS(R) - Step 2: Activate service
- Call SIRIUS Customer Service at 1-888-539-7474. During the opening greeting, use the greeting bypass code 789 (for dealers only), or...
- Complete the activation with the SIRIUS Customer Service Representative. Activation can be completed immediately or on a specific day at a specific time
SIRIUS(R) - Step 3: Confirm satellite receiver activation
During activation the radio must be on and in SAT mode with the antenna exposed to the sky with no overhead obstructions. Activation should be immediate, but in some cases, it may take up to 15 minutes. To determine activation has occurred, check by tuning to different SIRIUS channels (streams). If you are able to receive a variety of channels (streams) the activation process has been completed.
Should any activation problems be encountered, relocate vehicle if necessary to allow unobstructed overhead view or call SIRIUS Customer Care at 1-888-539-SIRIUS (7474).
NOTE: Within the first hour after requesting unit activation, the activation sequence is initiated 6-times (service attempts to communicate with receiver). Should the activation sequence not be successful, contact SIRIUS call center for further instructions.
XM(R) - Step 1: Capture Station Identification (SID)
- Turn radio on and press the SAT button.
- Using the XM band, tune to Channel 0 to find the 8-digit SID and note it for use when contacting XM call center.

XM(R) - Step 3: Confirm satellite receiver activation
During activation the radio must be on and in SAT mode with the antenna exposed to the sky with no overhead obstructions. Activation should be immediate, but in some cases, it may take up to 15 minutes, to determine activation has occurred, check by tuning to different XM channels. If you are able to receive more than ten channels the activation process has been completed.
Should any activation problems be encountered, relocate vehicle if necessary to allow unobstructed overhead view, or call XM Listener Care at 1-800-852-XMXM (9696).
