Cylinder Head
Head Bolt reuse/replace
Always replace cylinder head bolts when assembling.
Torque & Sequence
- Tighten cylinder head bolts in two stages in sequence shown as follows:
- Stage 1: 40 Nm
- Stage 2: additional 1/2 turn (180°) using rigid wrench (in two 1/4 turns (90°) if necessary).
Intake Manifold Torque & Sequence
The manufacturer does not provide a torque specification for this component. Refer to specifications/Mechanical/Standardized Bolt Torque Specification Chart for the required torque rating. Specifications
Camshaft Bearing Cap Torque & Sequence
Camshaft bearing cap bolt 10 Nm
- Tighten bearing caps 2 and 4 of intake and exhaust camshafts in stages and in diagonal sequence (watch position of dowel sleeves).
- Install the two bearing caps next to the chain sprockets on the intake and exhaust camshafts.
- Check correct setting of camshafts
Main Bearing Cap Torque & Sequence
Crankshaft Main Bearing Caps 65 Nm + 90°
(1/4 turn) further.
Rod Bearing Cap Torque & Sequence
Rod Cap Bolts 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) plus 1/4 turn (90°)
Axial clearance:
- New: 0.10 - 0.35 mm
- Wear limit: 0.40 mm
Radial clearance
- Check radial clearance with Plastigage:
- New: 0.01 - 0.05 mm
- Wear limit: 0.12 mm
Crankshaft Pulley Torque
Vibration damper to crankshaft 25 Nm
Flywheel/Flex Plate Torque & Sequence
A/T Flex Plate
Insert at least 3 of the old bolts and tighten to 30 Nm
Check instalation position.
Driveplate to crankshaft 60 Nm + 90°
NOTE: 90 deg corresponds to one quarter turn.
M/T Flywheel
Dual-mass flywheel to crankshaft 60 Nm + 90° (1,2)
1) Replace bolt
2) 90° equals one quarter turn
Oil Pump Torque & Sequence
Tightening Torque
Chain sprocket to oil pump shaft 25 Nm
Oil pump to cylinder block 15 Nm
Exhaust Manifold Torque & Sequence
Tightening Torque
Exhaust Manifold Hex Nut 25 Nm
Water Pump Torque & Sequence
Tightening Torque
Coolant pump to cylinder block 15 Nm.
