Steering Column Switches
CAUTION: Before beginning repairs on the electrical system:
- Obtain the anti-theft radio security code.
- Switch the ignition off.
- Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.
- After reconnecting battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows according to Owner's Manual.
Steering column switches, servicing
Removing
- Pull out steering column as far as possible and tilt downward.
- Remove steering wheel with airbag unit.
WARNING: Special safety precautions apply to vehicles equipped with airbags. Refer to Airbag: Service Precautions.
- Remove screws -arrows-.
Tightening torque: 0.6 Nm
- Remove upper section of steering column switch trim -1-.
NOTE: When installing, insert upper section into hooks on lower section, swivel downward and secure with screws.
- Remove screws -2- (2x).
Tightening torque: 0.6 Nm
- Remove bolt -1-.
Tightening torque: 0.6 Nm
- Swing down lower section of steering column switch trim -3- and leave suspended on steering column adjusting lever.
- Disconnect electrical connection -1-.
- Release locking lugs -arrows- and pull coil connector and slip ring from steering column switch.
NOTE: Steering must be centered (wheels in straight-ahead position) when the coil connector and slip ring are removed and installed.
- Loosen screw -2-.
Tightening torque: 2.8 Nm
- Disconnect electrical connections -3- (2x).
- Remove steering column switch -4-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
