Pressure Switch/power Steering -F88-, Checking

The pressure switch for power steering is used for idle stabilization when steering is turned to full stop (left or right).

Test sequence
- Connect VAS5051 tester or VAG1551 scan tool and select the control module for engine electronics using "address word" 01. Engine must run at idle for this . Connecting VAS 5051/VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST)

Display on VAS 5051:







- In field -1- select "08 - Read Measuring Value Block".

Display on VAS 5051:







1 - Enter display group, max. entered value = 255
- Enter "056" to select "display group number 056" and press -Q- button to confirm input.

Display on VAS 5051:







- Check pressure switch/power steering in display field -4-.

Display Group 056:

If indications do not resemble description:

Check switch
- Disconnect harness connector at Pressure switch/power steering -F88-, at power steering pump.







- Connect multimeter at switch for resistance measurement.
- Start engine.
- Specification: infinite Ohm (no continuity)
- Turn steering as far to right or left as possible.
- Specification: approx. 0 Ohm

If reading does not change:
- Replace pressure switch/power steering -F88-.

If indication changes:
- Check wire connections.

Checking wire connections
- Connect VAG1598/31 test box at wiring harness to ECM, do not connect ECM. Electrical Testing Using VAG1598/31 Test Box






Check the following wire connections for open circuit and short circuit to Ground (GND) and B+:

- Repair open circuit or short circuit if necessary.
