Knock Sensors, Checking
Special tools and equipment
- VAG1526A
- VAG1594A
- VAG1598/31
NOTE:
- Knock Sensor (KS) 1 -G61- and Knock Sensor (KS) 2 -G66- themselves cannot be electrically tested.
- Use only gold-plated terminals when servicing harness connector for knock sensors.
- For knock sensors to function properly, it is important that tightening torque be exactly 20 Nm.
- Check harness connector from knock sensor to wiring harness for corrosion.
Testing knock sensor wiring
- Remove knock sensor.
- Disconnect connector.
- Connect multimeter between terminals 1 and 2 of knock sensor to measure internal resistance.
- Specification: infinite Ohm (no continuity)
If specified value is not obtained:
- Replace knock sensor.
- Torque specification: 20 Nm
- Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to wiring harness for ECM; do not connect ECM. Electrical Testing Using VAG1598/31 Test Box
- Check for open circuit, short to ground, or short to positive in following wiring connections:
- Knock Sensor (KS) 1 -G61- (cylinder 1/2)
Connector Test box V.A.G 1598/31
terminal Socket
1 (signal) 106
2 (ground) 99
- Knock Sensor (KS) 2 -G66- (cylinder 3/4)
Connector Test box V.A.G 1598/31
terminal Socket
1 (signal) 107
2 (ground) 99
- Repair any open/short circuit as necessary.
