Replace Cylinder Head Bolts

Note: The long cylinder head bolts are inserted in the middle bores in the cylinder head.

1st stage 30 Nm
2nd stage 50 Nm
3rd stage 90° (1/4 turn) further
4th stage 90° (1/4 turn) further

Note: Re-tightening of the cylinder head bolts is not necessary on completion of repair work.

Max permissible distortion 0.05 mm

Intake manifold to cylinder head 13 Nm
Exhaust Manifold to cylinder head 23 Nm (1)
1) Replace nuts

Chain sprockets to intermediate shaft 60 Nm + 90° (1,2)
1) Replace bolt
2) 90° equals one quarter turn

Bearing cap to cylinder head 5 Nm +45° (1)
1) 45° equals 1/8 of a turn





Install intake camshaft as follows:
1. Tighten bearing caps 5 and 9 alternately in a diagonal sequence and then tighten to final torque.
2. Tighten bearing caps 1 and 13.
3. Tighten bearing cap 7
4. Tighten bearing caps 3 and 11.
Install exhaust camshaft as follows:
1. Tighten bearing caps 6 and 10 alternately in a diagonal sequence and then tighten to final torque.
2. Tighten bearing caps 2 and 14.
3. Tighten bearing cap 8
4. Tighten bearing caps 4 and 12.
^ Position camshafts in cylinder head to TDC for cylinder 1.
