Exhaust System: Adjustments

Exhaust system, aligning free of stress

Vehicles without clamp between center and rear mufflers
^ The exhaust system must be aligned when it is cool.
^ Loosen bolts of front clamp.





^ Push exhaust system toward front of vehicle (arrow), so that mounting for rear muffler is preloaded by -a- = 5 ..1 1 mm.

Note:





^ When installing the clamp, make sure the end of the bolt does not project below the bottom of the clamp (arrow).
^ The bolt connection faces to the right.

^ Tighten bolts on clamp evenly to 40 Nm.

Aligning tailpipes





^ Adjust rear muffler so that an even distance of -b- is between bumper cover cutout and tailpipe ends.
Dimension -a- = 26 mm
^ If necessary, loosen mounting for rear muffler to adjust tailpipes.

Vehicles with clamp between center and rear mufflers
^ The exhaust system must be aligned when it is cool.
^ Loosen bolts of front clamp and rear clamp.





^ Push front section of exhaust system toward front of vehicle (arrow) so that mounting for center muffler is preloaded by -a- = 5...11 mm.

Note:





^ When installing the clamp, make sure the end of the bolt does not project below the bottom of the clamp (arrow).
^ The bolt connection faces to the right.

^ Tighten bolts on front clamp evenly to 40 Nm.





^ Push rear section of exhaust system toward front of vehicle (arrow) so that left side mounting for rear muffler is preloaded by -a- = 5...11 mm.

Note:





^ When installing the rear clamp, make sure the ends of the bolts do not project below the bottom of the clamp (arrow).
^ The bolt connection faces to the left.

^ Align exhaust system free of stress.
^ Tighten bolts on front clamp evenly to 40 Nm.





^ Adjust rear muffler so that an even distance is between bumper cover cutout and tailpipe ends.
Dimension -a- = 26 mm
Distance -b- = -b
^ If necessary, loosen mounting for rear muffler to adjust tailpipes.
